I have been watching and waiting for the update to win 11 mainly for the improved interface and gaming features improvements including the full direct x 12 experience.

With some similarities to Apple osx it provides a clean interface and in my opinion is an overdue improvement.

The first option presented to me was I would be invited to update in the future e.g via the windows update system.

I jumped the wait and downloaded the update from Microsoft and 40 minutes later Windows 11 was working.

I will add the laptop is relatively new and I had nothing of value on it.

So what’s it like, well after a small adjustment trying to look for search which is now a magnifying glass mostly other than the smart layout and new feature which rock such as Teams built in I can say I am happy and will test out some games later.

Everything has worked with only one small niggle which is the windows.old folder the one used for upgrade which can be deleted is arguing about admin auth to delete it, all the usual tricks have failed so far so work in progress and considering the size of the update and past Microsoft failings during update that’s not bad.

On further investigation, elevated command prompts and elevated actions the windows.old still would not delete, I looked in the properties of the drive and could not initially see the clean up old windows installation, on looking further I found the button clean up system which then shows the old windows folders and removed them.

I suspect this is to prevent the muppets out there complaining due to Microsoft oversite and ensuring they can go back to windows 10, good and bad in that.

There’s certainly sense in waiting for some in critical environments or with older hardware otherwise I can see no reason not to upgrade.

Well done Microsoft.
