Mike’s Free Encounter #81: Basilisks of the Golden Dome

This is the 81st in an ongoing series aimed to provide the overworked DM with ready-to run encounters. The PCs meet the basilisks of the golden dome. Will they triumph or suffer gilded defeat?

His detractors and supporters both agreed that the merchant Aurum Avarus truly loved two things. The first was gold and the second was revenge. His wake combined both, much to the surprise of his guests. Before faking his death, Aurum Avarus commissioned the mage Kera Kitella to create the golden basilisks for him and a magical ring that would allow him to survive being turned to gold. At his wake, he released his golden basilisks upon the guests, transforming them into monuments to his love of gold and revenge. Perhaps due to the change to his mind or the greatness of his revenge he has remained in his dome, gazing upon the gold.

Aurum Avarus is CR 7.

It includes a history/background for the encounter, a map, and monster stats. The companion ZIP file contains JPEG versions of the maps (with and without grid), the Word file of the encounter, and a Fantasy Grounds Unity Module file.
